Carol was born to Al and Molly (nee Pavlet) Washicheck on Nov. 18, 1930 in Milwaukee where she was raised, and married Hubert "Bud" C. Gruetzmacher on Aug. 27, 1949 in West Allis.
She met Bud at the State Fair, and they both knew instantly that they were meant to be together.
After marriage, the couple resided in the Milwaukee area, then Grafton and settled in the town of Polk in 1992.
She adored crewel, doll collecting and bead crafting.
Above all, Carol enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bud; children, Gloria (Eugene) Raess of Random Lake, Paul (Jeanette) of Saukville, Don of the town of Polk and Jeannie (Dennis) Hubert of Saukville.
Further surviving are her grandchildren, Shane and Mryia Hubert, Lora (Jason) Horn; great -grandchildren, Gabrielle "Elle" and Autumn Horn; a brother, Ralph Washicheck; a brother-in-law, Jim Froemming; a sister-in-law, Doris Richardson; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Lila Froemming; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Ralph (Avril "Avy") Gruetzmacher and Gorden Richardson.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend, 1420 W. Paradise Drive.
Chaplain Cheryl L. Matusiak will officiate, and cremation was at Paradise Cremation Services.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
