James Garfield Adams Jr
James Garfleld Adams Jr., 65, of
Rochester Township, passed away
Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at his home.
Born September 23, 1943, in New
Brighton, a son of the late James
Garfield Sr. and Edith T. Hollibaugh
Adams, he was a former employee of
the St. Joe Minerals Corp., Potter
Township. He was retired from the U.S.
Air Force Reserve 911 Tactical Unit in
Pittsburgh as an E9, where he had 30
years of service combined with active
and reserve status. Jim was also
employed with the 911 Tactical Unit in a
civilian capacity. He was a member of
St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Parish,
Rochester. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he
served in Vietnam and then as a
reservist during Desert Shield. He was a
member of the Projectionist and Stage
Hand Union Local 627, Washington, PA,
and was a 25 year member of St. James
Lodge 457 F&AM, Beaver.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years,
Mary Ann Matakovich Adams; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa M.
and Daniel Jacobson, Tucson, AZ, and
Cheryl L. and Ron Nail, Monaca; a son,
James M. Adams, and his fiancee,
Stacey A. Burns, Economy; three
grandchildren, Ronald and Christine
Nail, Monaca, and Maximilian Jacobson,
Tucson, AZ; two sisters and brothers-in-
law, Judith Ann and Thomas Surowiec,
Las Vegas, NV, and Linda Lee and Mark
McGaffIc, Baden; a brother and sister-
in-law, Dale R. and Becky Adams,
Akron, Ohio; numerous nieces,
nephews, great nieces and great
nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by a sister, Carol
Jane Kamzelski, and a brother, Robert
E. Adams.
Friends will be received Monday from
2 to 9 p.m. in the WILLIAM MURPHY
FUNERAL HOME INC., 349 Adams St.,
Rochester. A Mass of Christian burial will
be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St.
Cecilia Roman Catholic Church,
Rochester Township.
Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills
Memorial Park.
A Christian wake service will be held
Monday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral
home.
