When I started this story, I thought I knew where I was going - I was wrong. Clearly the Prudlo family has shown interest in both Milwaukee and Todd County, Minnesota. However, the relationship and sequence of events is not yet clear.

Some things we do know:

  • Jan and Peter left Hamburg in 1877 with their wives and Jan's son Robert.
  • Ludwig arrived in Baltimore in 1888 destined for Ohio(?)
  • Agnes and Michael arrived in 1889 destined for Wisconsin!
  • No IMM info yet found for Paul, Joseph, or the parents.
  • Father Thomas dies in 1893, and is buried in MN!
  • Ludwig, Peter, Paul, and Michael are naturalized in MN. Agnes is married in MN by 1895.
  • Jan and Joseph are naturalized in Milwaukee.
  • The parents and Peter are buried in MN and Agnes is buried across the border in Washburn County, WI, but lives most of her life in MN.
  • Jan, Ludwig, Paul, Joseph, and Michael are buried in Milwaukee.

Piecing this info together, my best quess is that the family initially settled in Milwaukee. In 1892, all but Jan and Joseph migrated to MN. In 1896/7 Louis, Michael, Paul, and the widowed mother return to Milwaukee. The mother soon after returns to MN, leaving five children in Milwaukee.

The open question is "Why Todd County, MN?"

I may have found the answer:

About 1875 a family from Silesia settled in Todd County. The husband was Rochus Kolodziej (later Kologi) and the wife was Rose Prudlo Hynnek/Heinack Kolodziej!!! Rose was born in 1842. I do not yet know her relationship to Joseph, but that name in that place seems too much to be a coincidence.
