When Edwin Person and Elizabeth Blomquist became a couple, they joined a church in Connecticut that followed similarly rigorous documetation practices as had been followed in their native Sweden for many centuries. In another reference you can find the entry identifying Frykerud, Varmland as the birth place of Edwin.

I had the good fortune to find one data entry that had been indexed (in Karlstad) and from that entry I could work my way back to his birth. Each year the church would make an entry in the HH book that would, among other things, record when and from where a person entered the location, and when and to where they left. I will present my findings in the reverse order in which they were found - moving forward in time:

  • 1841-1845: Kopung: Here we find the maternal grandparents, Per Nilsson and Stina Jansdotter, in their residence in Kopung, Frykerud, Varmland. Note that Stina is a native, but Per is born in Boda. Also here are their first four children - Stina Kajsa, Nils Frederik, Johan, and Maria.
  • I have yet to locate the HH entry that includes the birth of Edwin's mother, Anna. This is due to the location names in that book not matching those in all the other books I encountered.
  • 1856-1860: Kopung: Here we find the family in the same location 10 years later. Note that three more children have been added - Clara, Anna, and Augusta. Anna will turn out to be Edwin's mother. Note that Anna was born in 1853, but that, for some reason, no date info is recorded here.
  • 1861-1865: Kopung: A busy time for the Nilsson family! Stina Casja has married Lars Magnus Magnusson and produced two children - Christine and Per Adolf. Nils Frederik left in 1862 and moved to page 49, but then returned in 1863 from page 185, and brought with him a new bride - Christina Larsdotter - and their child Maria Elizabeth. Daughter Maria also left in 1861 for page 546, but returned in 1863, and then left again in 1865 for Nors. She was married in 1865 to Gustaf Andersson, who was from Stansberg, Nors.
  • 1866-1870: Kopung: Clara leaves for Nors in 1868, and returns in 1870. Clara has married farmer Olaf Andersson, from Olsater, Nors.
  • 1871-1875: Kopung: Johan moves to Nors in 1871. Clara and her new child, Carl Wilhelm, return to Nors in 1871, perhaps to stay with husband Gustaf. Anna has given birth to an illigitimate child - Per Edwin - and he has been named after his grandfather (Persson). In 1874, Anna and Per Edwin move to Nors.
  • 1871-1875: Fageras: In 1875, Anna and Per Edwin return from Nors to Frykerud, but to another location called Fageras. She probably was employed by the manager of this farmstead.
  • 1876-1880: Fageras: Anna and Per Edwin remain in Fageras until 1877 when they return home to Kopung.
  • 1876-1880: Kopung: Anna and Per Edwin stay with her parents until 1880, when they move to Karlstad.
  • 1876-1880: Karlstad: Anna probably came to Karlstad for a job.
  • 1881-1885: Karlstad: In 1882, Anna and Per Edwin return to Frykerud, but not to home. I did not look for that brief stay.
  • 1881-1885: Kopung: In 1883, Anna and Per Edwin return home. The entry says they came from Karlstad. If this is accurate, then there was more than one intervening move.
  • 1886-1890: Kopung: It looks like Anna may have had another sojourn to "Aterinfod", returning home in 1886. Then in 1887 she married Lars Magnus Eriksson, and moves to page 355. Note also that Stina Jansdotter is now a widow.
  • 1886-1890: Kopung (p355): Anna and Per Edwin are now living with her husband, and Anna has given birth to son Carl Sigfrid Larsson.
  • 1891-1895: Kopung: Lars Magnus Eriksson dies in 1892 and in 1893 Anna moves to page 347. I assume Karl Sigfrid goes with her. Now age 19, Per Edwin strikes off on his own, moving to Fageras (p71).
  • 1891-1895: Fageras: May 13, 1892, Per Edwin Persson leaves Fageras for North America.
