On December 27, 1872, Ambrose Cook purchased a plot land in Juneau County using a mortgage. Sometime later he walked away from this obligation and moved to Pierce County before 1880. The holder of the mortgage apparently reclaimed the land informally and resold it without clearing the title and this faulty title descended through several owners until, in 1924, the current owners went to court to clear their title. I thought this was an interesting example about how the legal system clears a title.
